On Exhibit
“I became an artist without being aware of it,” Juan Cristobal Pinochet Araya says. Art was such a great part of his life in Québec City. He arrived there from Chile at an early age. His mother was a painter and he got interested in art because he saw her working in her studio and he learned to stay quiet just watching her work because he was so fascinated. Having his mother’s studio at home and seeing her paint there, the brushes in jars and the tables and drawers full of tubes, was just so natural. Even as a youngster he was careful not to touch things because they could be covered in fresh paint. The result is that today, many years later, during his demonstrations, he could be wearing a white shirt and a good jacket and stay pristine.
