Nicole Taillon’s Mantra

Forms, Volume and Space

Time – a precious resource if ever there was one! It slips through the fingers of some while others have too much of it on their hands. And yet, we all share a fleeting existence in this world where technology is meant to save us time while, paradoxically, Man has never lacked so much of it, has never seemed so out-of-breath, so hurried.

When Forms are Shaped through Sentiment

Forms, Volume and Space

“We must content ourselves to discover and never try to explain.” Georges Braque.

Bronze is a traditional material of ancient heritage. It is a preferred medium of sculptors due to the feasibility of juxtaposing in one élan sparkling smooth surfaces and textured details of minute finesse. This being said, the present day volition to produce artworks in bronze is interesting as it testifies to how perfectly this material can be adapted to contemporary expressions.

Francine Laurin

The Pursuit of Beauty

Forms, Volume and Space

Arched back, hands outstretched towards heaven: Francine Laurin’s sculptures have an ethereal quality. Filled with a sense of wonder at their grace and airiness, we readily forget they are cast in bronze.

Born in Lachute, Québec, in 1951, the artist always knew she would embark on a creative path. At 10 years of age, she was fascinated with Armand Vaillancourt’s burnt wood sculptures. After a few initial attempts and a first exhibition of ceramic figures, she starts exploring a variety of materials and soon develops a true passion for sculpture. She begins her artistic training with plastic art studies at the Cégep level, followed by studies in painting, sculpture and ceramics at UQAM.
