Lucie Michel

Artist Profile

“A landscape is the backdrop to human life.” – Bernardin de Saint-Pierre

The prestigious imprint of Lucie Michel’s body of work undoubtedly resides in her landscapes. She is able to create a unique universe from skillful alchemies. Her painting straddles the random limits of matter in fusion, hence, this shimmering effect on the spectator’s retina. It also lies in this novel way of viewing nature and its landscapes, prime sources of inspiration for the artist.

Roger Ricard

Writing in Colours

Painting a Country

Sunshine fills painter Roger Ricard’s studio. The double doors, with glass panes painted by the artist, open to a coloured explosion of paintings upon paintings with vibrant scenes as heart-warming as a tight embrace in the heart of winter.

With either his landscapes or his fanciful interiors, Roger Ricard invites us into a dreamlike universe filled with fantasy, joy and humour. An experienced painter who is celebrating his 50th year of career, his artistic signature features vivid colours, fluid movements, rhythm of lines and a balanced composition in shapes as much as in tonalities. He is an instinctive artist who interprets his subjects and exaggerates the aspects he loves. “What I paint is not real, it comes from my imagination,” says the artist, which is part of the reason why admiring his works procures such a great feeling.

Sophie Lévesque

In Search of Lost Time

Delight in Discovery

“Our souvenirs fade with the passage of time, but what is memory if not an act of the imagination!” – Lindsay Clarke

A warm and cozy atmosphere. Soft lights deliciously dimmed. Victorian furniture a bit dated in appearance. We are in painter Sophie Lévesque’s secret garden, where flourish souvenirs, sentiments and intimate visions to be shared. A place where time is dissected into an array of visual parcels. Here a bull’s-eye window, there a wobbly chair or table.

Sophie Lévesque juggles with the notions of space and the passing of time, as others do with shapes. In brief, she knows how to reconstruct a universe around objects with a particular and fascinating viewpoint.

Alain Massicotte

Illustrator and Painter

Painting a Country

Within every artistic discipline, there are always some creators who draw unanimous consensus among their peers whenever the quality of their production is being discussed. Alain Massicotte is among these select few.

Digging from their well of resources, following their paths of wonderment, striding into unique forests, these exceptional beings permeate each of their works with effluences of captivating spices. Their talent and the time and effort they invest are the ingredients of their perfect recipe.

Alain is an illustrator by trade, one of the pioneers of the Association of Illustrators of Quebec. He first studied pure sciences at Cégep Bois-de-Boulogne before turning to the field of architecture at Université de Montréal. After having spent two years in that department, he again reorients his professional path and attends graphic communications classes at Laval University. This is where he realizes that a career as an illustrator is a perfect fit for him.

Gail Descoeurs

Sailing into the Mystic

Art in a Feminine Perspective

There are so many different ways to describe Gail Descoeurs that it is difficult to know where to begin. Determined and disciplined fit the bill as does the seemingly contradictory coupling of mystical and spritely.

Descoeurs works in the field of contemporary realism. Her paintings are almost all landscapes and a fair number of them feature water and impressive skies. “My favorite things to paint are skies, trees, landscapes, marshes, wide open spaces, water. I love the light, even in my dark paintings there is some light.” Abonnez-vous au contenu de notre site internet pour lire ce texte. Subscribe to our Website content to read more

Suzan Édith Baron Lafrenière

Paying Tribute to Women

Thumbnail Sketches

Love and human warmth: pure joy! It is in festive atmosphere that I am welcomed at Baron Lafrenière Gallery in Quebec City on this autumn afternoon.

It is an honour to meet this great artist, Suzan Édith Baron Lafrenière and her two sons, Nikolas-Samuel Bernier, who manages the gallery, and François-David Bernier, lawyer and owner of this fantastic art gallery located in the old Molson bank building near Quebec’s old port. Suzan Édith Baron Lafernière has, in fact, four sons who actively promote her work to collectors and to the public at large.
