Yvon St-Aubin

A Gallery of Electric Pigments

Painting a Country

Thirty years ago, candy pink or purple trees where hardly ever seen in paintings, as elements of composition rather aimed at depicting reality without too much whim or fancy. If landscape artists’ pictorial propositions ablaze with colours are today less rare, the fact remains that Yvon St-Aubin was one of the first to dare use strong colour values to illustrate our countryside in his own particular way, thus incorporating a breath of modernism into a niche essentially linked to tradition.

Galerie Céleste

Portrait

A great number of art lovers toy with the project of opening a gallery. There is however, between dream and reality, a large gap to be conquered which is not everyone’s cup of tea.

This mix of culture and business sense is rather rarely found, but when it does present itself, the sustainability of the project is foreseeable. Such is the case for Galerie Céleste, owned by an artist with a high degree of business sensitivity; fourteen years of existence and solid growth as undeniable proof.

Michel Mecteau

Vivid colours and curved shapes

Delight in discovery

A man of few words, Michel Mecteau nevertheless speaks volume through his brushes as he reveals a universe essentially composed of brilliant colours and graceful arabesques.

Facing the canvas, the artist’s creative verve is almost boundless, nurtured by an eye that constantly views all that surrounds him in terms of subjects and values. Definitely figurative, his landscapes nonetheless radiate an atmosphere of enchantment rendered in a vibrant palette that goes beyond reality and generous compositions where omnipresent curves lead the eye into graceful waltz. Typical Quebec heritage houses thread along winding roads, forming a lengthy coloured necklace, bordered by imposing mountains with rugged  hillsides.
