Ginet Leblond

The Music Within her Paintings

Artist Profile

What is the magic quality that some artists have, that distinguishes their art work? What makes their paintings unique and recognizable?

Ginet Leblond’s work is suffused by a warm glow, joyous as at twilight. It can also be cold and solemn when the cold light creeps into the bones and the hot meal of the day is cooked over an open flame. Her paintings, with their historical and compelling subject matter, take on a life and lifetime of their own.

Hélène Caron

Allegorical Bestiary

Artist Profile

The field of dog training having long been a part of Hélène Caron’s life, it is with great sadness that she resigned herself to abandon the idea of sharing her life with an animal companion, due to allergies suffered by those close to her.

Deprived of the pleasure of interacting with either a cat or a dog, she directed her need towards the visual representation of animals, mostly of those that would not remind her of what she was missing. “It’s been a painful grieving process, since connecting with animals is essential to me. I had to find another way of having them around me.”

Alexi-Martin Courtemanche

Kneading the Light

Artist Profile

“It’s the uncertainty that charms. A mist makes things wonderful and mysterious.” – Oscar Wilde, author

Oh my goodness! The painter expresses such high sensitivity by recurring to the vaporous contours of sfumato; a technique that goes as far back as Leonardo Da Vinci, which forces the spectator to take a step back, admire and internalize the essence of the work. Rarely used in contemporary art, sfumato is a mode of colour blending which procures a vaporous, even smoky, effect where the subject’s contours are evoked rather than delineated, as through a veil of diffused and blurred lights.

Teresa Nice

Nice Bold Luminous Painting in the Classical Tradition

Artist Profile

Toronto-based painter Teresa Nice paints bold luscious luminescent still lifes and the occasional portrait. Once, as an experiment, she painted a four foot by six foot full length portrait of two adolescent boys, Dex and Eric. Nice doesn’t think she will do another large painting because it took too long to paint and because her studio is small, she had a hard time backing up far enough to get a really good look at the work while she was doing it.
